Plex Artist Radio – How to use it and Library Radio and Shuffle
I got an email announcing the new feature Artist Radio. I clicked the link in the email expecting to learn more about Plex Artist Radio, but I was disappointed. Nowhere could I find how to basically setup or use Artist Radio, I want to know how, what are the steps, how about some screenshots. I could not find the feature Artist Radio anywhere in Plex Media Server, Media Player, Fire TV, or Android. I did see a basic command for use with Alexa. I use and love Alexa, I want but to basically use in the programs before I want fool with Alexa and Artist Radio. Also, I would like to know how to use Library Radio. And what is the difference between Library Radio and Shuffle?

Artist Radio requires an up-to -date server version.
It also relies on metadata from last.fm
So, if you have disabled last.fm
or
your music library consists solely of ‘Personal Media’ which are not ‘matched’ to any external metadata then those Radios won’t work.

The radios are not available yet in the web app, which I assume is what you mean when you say “in my server”.

On Android mobile, you can find them when tapping on the Music icon in the lower menu bar. Then scroll slowly downwards.

Shuffle simply takes the album, artist or playlist and randomises the order of all items in it.

Library Radio uses the ratings from last.fm to select the top-rated songs from your library. There is additional logic built in to prevent it from playing the same playlist twice and to introduce some variety during repeated radio playbacks.

In other words: Shuffle plays all tracks, Library Radio plays only a selection.
Naturally, Radio works better with larger music collections.

Hi, I cannot see Artist radio in the plexamp, android, iOS, or Apple Tv apps.

  • I am running server version Version 1.13.5.5291 Check for Updates Up to date
  • I have updated my library to ensure it uses last.fm (as well as plex premium music) in the Artist agent.
  • After ensuring those two options, I refreshed all metadata for my music library.

Any ideas?

Edit the artist. Does it have any entries under Tags - Similar Artists?
If there is nothing there, the library radio cannot work.

So, I have a premium music library created and I have Similar Artist tags, but when I go to try and play artist radio, I just get “unable to play media.”

I have the same problem when trying to play library radio as well. Any ideas?

I know this topic is a little old, but I was able to fix this problem for me by enabling “Download Popular Track Information” in my music library and then refreshing metadata.
