Artist Radio

Server Version#: 1.40.5
Player Version#: .latest

When I go into an artist or album and try to play Artist or Album Radio, I get some variation of “Unable to play media” depending on what client I’m using.

What do I look for?

The music library must use the “Plex Music” scanner and agent.
“Popular Tracks” must be activated.
There must be no “trashed” items in your library.
The server’s database must be intact, with up-to-date search indices (which are usually updated automatically during the server maintenance period).

Thanks. Didn’t have “Popular Tracks”. Do I have to “Analyze” the Library to make it go?

The rest is done as scheduled tasks overnight every night.

I’d rather have Artist Radio not care what’s “popular” – if I bought the album I want to hear it. Any way to do that?

Popular Tracks are metadata. Therefore you need to Refresh Metadata for the whole library. Best do it overnight.

There is not, because Artist radios takes the popularity of tracks into account, when creating a play queue.
If you want to pepper up the radio, I recommend activating one of the guest DJs in Plexamp. DJ Stretch or DJ Twofer come to mind.
Other than that, why not play the album as such, if you want to hear it in full?

Because it isn’t THE Album, right? It’s “similar” artists. There are albums that ought to heard be in order – these are properly speaking albums (say Days of Future Passed, a great many classical releases) but most of the library isn’t like that.

Plexamp has been growing on me but I’m hampered by not having a way to play it properly on my Roku or WebOS TV. I’m going to attempt making a Plexamp headless on a 1L PC I have lying about, or maybe obtain a Raspberry (or other fruit) Pi and see how that works.

Thanks again
