Aspect Ratio Problems with Samsung Plex app

Player Version - Plex for Samsung #: 4.19.2
Tizen - 5.5

I am just starting my journey into using Plex for my home media needs.

Fantastic software but trying to get movies to play in the right ratio has been a struggle though

Some movies in 2.35:1 ratios play just fine

However with some movies in 2.35:1 ratio they get automatically stretched to full screen 16:9 when I try to play it on the samsung plex app, regardless if I choose direct play or hw transcoding.

Other movies in the same 2.35:1 ratio display the right ratio fine when direct played but if I use hw transcoding it again ends up displayed in 16:9 format…

No idea what is causing this, can anyone help??

exactly the same problem here with samsung 8 series (2020) and the latest plex media server ( 1.19.5.3035)

same with my samsung frame 2020

Do you have more examples? Have you provided logs? First thing I notice is the one that went 16:9 is the 4K video. The one that kept it ratio is 1080P. Do you have other 1080P and 4K movies in this ratio you could try and replicate the results?

Try to activate DLNA, confirm that is working on tv, then open Plex app normaly.
I dont know why but worked for me on my tu8000.

I’m getting the same issue on my Samsung Q70T with Tizen 5.5 using Plex app version 4.29.7 and the 5.1.1 early access preview version.

We’re investigating the issue. It seems to only affect the new 2020 lineup.

I was watching the server logs via the Plex Dash app on my iPhone - I noticed every time the aspect ratio issue happened, the server logs said it was using the “Generic” profile instead of anything Samsung related.

We found the issue and will have a fix in the early access soon.

This will always be the case in the early access app

I just noticed the app had updated on my Q70T - and the issue has been fixed!
