Sometimes, anime shows burn subtitles, and sometimes it just transcodes them from ASS to SRT. I’d like to know why/can I force it to transcode rather than burn using a profile.xml?
When a video needs transcoding or a sub needs burning in, PMS will also do the other. From your image I can’t tell which is driving the other. Can you provide the XML for that video? Investigate Media Information and Formats | Plex Support My guess is there is something wrong with the video causing it to transcode, so PMS throws in the subs as well.
– Most of my anime episodes transcoded video and burned the subs when they were OPUS audio, but that was fixed by my profile.xml since Roku can handle OPUS.
That video looks fine and it should direct play. I’m gonna need to see the log from the Roku after starting playback where it is burning in the sub. Roku Logs | Plex Support
One of the devs looked into this and saw that your XML showed the subtitles you chose were in Japanese (or at least labeled as Japanese). Roku cannot render Japanese so it had to burn them in.
Interesting; It appears that those subtitles are labeled incorrectly (they are actually English). As for the logs, not sure if you still needed them but there are some in my OP. It should capture the playback of the transcoded file as well as the others.
