I’ve recently purchased an Asus Tinker Board for the purpose of setting it up as PlexMediaServer at home. I’m not very accustomed to Linux as OS, but I can follow guides.
Coming to my issue(s), after having installed Debian offered by Asus on a microSD card, I managed to install PMS following @drmagoo’s guide. It worked initially for a small test, but then issues started to happen:
it crashed all my other clients’ internet connections from my router; tried different router, wifi connection to Tinker board, LAN connection, in all cases internet was suffering (can’t have an explanation)
Tinker Board was heating up, the CPU indicator was showing high usage, and eventually soon after it would freeze, although there was no streaming on any device regarding the Plex content
Simply uninstalling PMS solved the issues (no internet issue, no heating, no freezing of the TinkerB).
Any ideas what could cause this, as in my case it appears to be related to the PMS itself? Or, is there another version/app (maybe you call it repository?) of PMS for armhf?
Thanks. I have no experience regarding SBCs nor Linux. I chose Tinker Board because of a more powerful CPU, which helps transcoding, as I’ve previously found. Transcoding, according to my understanding, is needed even when you stream a video using external subtitles. I’m not native English and watch movies with subtitles, therefore I was looking for some device that would be able to transcode.
However, so far the problem is gone… meaning the weird CPU max usage by Plex server.
I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it. The very same thing happened: opened a video for testing, worked for a few minutes then I closed. I restarted the Tinker and soon after Plex server would start using max CPU and freeze everything (including my LAN). I killed the Plex process and restarted it using systemctl Linux command.
For some reason, PMS has been stable since. Even if I reboot the Tinker Board, there is no issue like I previously noticed. Hope it stays like this, because I’m satisfied with the Plex server performance.
