I have had my users on Roku complaining and thought I might be able to offer assistance. I only use 1 Roku device in my house and that sits idle in the guest bedroom unless we have guests. So today I decided to look at it and see if I could help my own users with it.
First, I turned the TV on and opened Plex, to see the same app I’ve always seen. Huh. So I realized I haven’t received the update yet, and told the TV to update. Ah, now I see the changes.
But I’m not seeing anything extra in the menu. No Live TV. No On Demand, etc. Just “Home” and “Libraries”. Scrolling down through Home shows me all the usual rows. Recently added, continue watching, etc.
I ask my daughter for help since she uses a Roku TV at her house. She gives me her PIN and I witch users to her account.
Ah, there it all is. So it hits me. I have all of these things disabled on my user account.
I check to see if I can do that in the app. Nope.
So I experimented and changed the following things on her account.
Now, you will need to open your plex server on a computer or laptop. You can’t make these changes in the app.
Open a web browser on a computer or laptop and go to your plex server (https://yourplexserveraddress:32400/web/index.html)
Once there, log into your account and then click the wrench icon on the top right:
This should put you at this screen:
On this screen, click “Online Media Sources” on the left side. This puts you here:
Set everything in here just like I have it, saving each as you change it. The last option you can set to whatever.
Now on the app on Roku, sign out and sign back in.
You should now only see “Home” and “Libraries” on top.
I can’t do anything about the layout itself, but for those who hate all the extra confusing items, this may provide a little relief, hopefully.
Here’s hoping Plex rolls it back.
