In the new Plex experience on Roku, how can I unpin the On Demand and Discover libraries on the top like I could in the old app? I have no interest in those, so I would like to remove them from the screen.
Disable all Online Media Sources in your account settings: https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources
Then exit the Plex Roku app. On my remote I pressed the back button until prompted with “do you want to exit..”. When relaunched, only Home and Libraries are present.
Wouldn’t this make it so that I cannot watch any online content? I watch several Plex live channels through the Live TV library. And in the old interface, I could choose to pin or unpin “Discover”, “Live TV’, “Movies & Shows”, “Rentals”, and “Watchlist”, and I could choose where on the list of libraries that they appear, if I pinned them. Now, they are forced across the top, and I can’t turn them off or relocate them like I could in the old interface, while still allowing me to occasionally jump in there to watch some online content.
Correct. You wrote “I have no interest in those, so I would like to remove them from the screen.”
Correct.
So how can I make them go away across the top, yet still allow the occasional access when I want to watch a Plex channel? Other people have tried disabling all the online sources and these still show on their Roku client with the new app.
You cannot (short of enabling/disabling in account settings).
They should disappear when they fully exit the app, reboot the device, etc. (see my first reply).
Switching to a different app does not necessarily quit the Plex app. It may just place it in the background.
Bummer. Further indication that this update needs to be rolled back.
I appreciate the info, but I use other non-Roku devices on my account, so I will deal with it for the time being.
I’d really love to know how to take away watching live TV and R rater horror and other movies from On Demand for my 9 YEAR OLD SON. I mean I have Live TV and DVR DISABLED on the server, but why would the Roku client listen to this?
Why wouldn’t we want a Plex system that allows a Parent to set for them to only view Media is it has a Label set when we can just open a free access to everything with On Demand?
It isn’t just an annoying for properly setup children accounts, it is a complete and utter fail.
Edit: I fixed the settings. Not what I wanted to spend my evening doing, but with opt in by default to the things we don’t want, this is where I am. Now it is disabled on the server and not just on the only device he uses…
The method of dealing with access restrictions for minors is to create a dedicated managed user account for the kid(s).
Then you can select “Disabled for Managed Users” on this screen https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources
If you created a fully-blown plex user account for your kid, you cannot really restrict that account. because the kid can always enter the page https://app.plex.tv/desktop/#!/settings/online-media-sources and re-enable all of these for themselves.
Ah, perfect, thanks! Now all that crap is gone
