Hi, I setup plexconnect to test its functionality, and was pleasantly surprised.
However, now that I've concluded my testing I'm having a nightmare of a time trying get the DNS settings back to default.
I'm changing the setting just like I originally changed it by following the documentation (only changing the DNS IP from my server to it's original value) but it's just not sticking.
I've even tried automatic detection of network settings (no effect) and even a "reset" (not a restore because it's jailbroken)
Anyone else noticed this problem? Google is providing unhelpful because all results just state the obvious of how to make the change - but that's not working for me.
Like I understand it, he is actually trying to change the DNS setting inside the aTV back to standard -> automatic detection or his router directly.
I don't see, why that shouldn't work...
Exactly this, I've not changed the default google DNS server IP in plexconnect - I'm just trying to get my ATV2 back to it's original DNS settings.
Anyone willing to just give it a try temporarily? Short of trawling through every file via SSH on the ATV2 itself to try and find the setting I'm at a bit of a loose end as to what to try next.
Your ATV 'should' automatically detect your DNS server if you set it to automatic (this is unrelated to PlexConnect).
If you are having issues Google your ISP's DNS server and just add it in manually in the same way you changed it for PlexConnect.
EDIT: You did only make the one change to the ATV and that was the DNS server setting on the ATV through its GUI right?
Sorry, yeah, I know this is unrelated to PlexConnect (could have made that clearer) but it's the only forum I'm part of that talks about any changes to DNS settings with the ATV itself.
Finding out my original DNS settings isn't an issue as I've got 3 x ATV2's in the house. It's simply the process of changing the DNS settings back to it's original setting that's got me stumped.
Yeah, the only change made to the ATV2 (apart from it's previous jailbreak) to get PlexConnect working was to change the DNS through the GUI following the steps in the Wiki. I'm doing the same thing to try and change it back but it's just not sticking. Both "manually" changing it and "autodetect" have no effect on the networking settings - the DNS is insistent that it want's to connect to my server running PlexConnect. Even with PlexConnect turned off "auto detect network settings" doesn't change a thing.
Again, I realise this doesn't fall under support for PlexConnect (I'm effectively trying to stop using PlexConnect!) but I don't really have any place else to turn :)
There is definitely something screwy with it then - i would restore it then as that way you know it is 'clean', otherwise you may start to see other odd behaviour..
