Installing the latest Plex App from PlayStore on Sony Bravia 9 Series:
Plex does perfect DirectPlay when using the internal speakers. When connecting a Bluetooth Headset plex transcode the same file, reason: E-AC3 is not not supported on this device.
When using a FireTV 4k Max 2nd the same file with the same headset runs DirectPlay without any issue.
Strange thing:
When playing the file on Sony TV on the internal speakers, the DirectPlay is perfect. When I now enable the Bluetooth headset during the playback, then the DirectPlay does still work! When enabling the Headset before the playback starts then theres the “unsupported codec” message and Plex trancodes.
Solution at this time is transcoding the eac3 or use a no Bluetooth Headset.
Can I ask you something, does MKV with DTS:X or True HD playing in DirectPlay work with your internal speakers?
Have you already thought about a surround system? I would be very interested to know whether Plex can also forward the sound to an AVR via passthrough.
There is no hope for a soon fix with Bluetooth.
Buy a Corsair Headset.
Edit:
Did you use LAN or Wlan?
Have you try playing High Bitrate MKV, 100mbit/s or higher?
If it is not work, you can use an USB3 to Network Adapter like,
Cable Matters USB Gigabit Ethernet Adapter from Amazon.
Got an Email from Sony, that this are the supported sound formats,
As you say, Plex will never fix this issue. The shield pro is a fantastic player but for transcoding this is an another story… So i found an another alternative solution… Transcode with an another server. I bought a mini PC, switch my plex server to this mini PC and no transcoding EAC3 issue. The shield play my videos without buggy image and i have finaly a very responsive server with no interface lag
