Hi everybody !
I have an issue with my shield tv pro with plex player. The issue is a transcoding issue when i connect my bluetooth headphone (momentum 4) directly to the shield. Plex try to transcode EAC3 to opus systematically. But my movie or tv show stop systematically… This issue is only on my shield tv because other devices (nothing phone 2 ; other android box, samsung tablet) convert the eac3 to the same bluetooth headphone with no problem…
Unfortunatly, on this forum i found many subject about the “eac3 gate” with headphone but not many response from the plex staff.
The walkaround solution for me is to connect my headphone directly to my TV (no transcoding EAC3) push the pause buton, reconnect the headphone to the shieldpro and no problem to play my movies… But this process must be repeated for each video. Very frustrated solution
For information i try all solution found on this forum, disable sound suround, hdmi passtrouth on, off etc…, no subtitle…
I even try with another apps (sorry plex staff) on my shield pro : Nova media player or VLC, no problem with EAC3. So the problem came from Plex player.
So,it will be very helpful to have a return for this issue.
Tks by advance Plex staff
Tks for the return and the link, but it seems that this hotfix was released since a while…
My shield Pro is already on this firmware 9.1.1(33.2.0.157). I ha ve only this issue with plex, no problem with KODI, NOVA PLAYER, VLC.
Ok, I have the Corsair HS80 Max Wireless Headset with Dolby Audio 7.1 Surround Sound, used with USB Dongle in Nvidia Shield and it works fine with Dolby Digital True HD Atmos and DTS:X, DTS HD MA HRA, EAC3 like Dolby Digital Plus and all other. I can also used as Bluetooth, so I tried it for you. It will also trancode EAC3 to OPUS, EAC3 will not be supported! Bluetooth on Plex will not support EAC3 for direct play, I think.
But if I unpair Bluetooth, I have direct play over USB again. But that only works if I set plex passtrough to “HDMI”. With the passtrough setting “disabled”, plex transcodes the EAC3 back into OPUS via USB.
Many thanks again for your return City-Cobra !
So i have try your alternativ solution : connect a UGREEN bluetooth dongle (Aptx LL, Aptx HD, Aptx adaptative) directly to the shield Pro, pair to my headset and no AC3 transcoding process from Plex (hdmi passthrough activated) and EAC3 is directly play by PLEX with no issue. Plex have a problem with EAC3 and Bluetooh… But, the codec used is Aptx adaptative i/o Aptx HD as the Shield Pro.
So i will check into the developper option if i can choose only Aptx HD, and all wil be fine
Tks again for your return !
I hope that plex’s team will patch this issue or just give me a reply.
Because you try a Bluetooth USB Dongle,
my USB Dongle isn’t Bluetooth, it is 2.4GHz. Also the Headset have a second option without Dongle but Bluetooth.
2,4GHz Wireless USB Dongle work with EAC3 in Direct Play (only with passtrough set to HDMI).
Bluetooth not work in Direct Play and must transcode to OPUS.
@Plex Team, can you fix it, to play EAC3 over Bluetooth in direct play?
By mail, no answer, except with “try with our forum”
By Billing support, no answer, except with “try with our forum”
So, for the moment, the solution for me is to lauch the movie, push the pause button, connect my bluetooth headset and no issue, plex use the passrought, no start and stop issue.
