Hi i have sometimes some Movie files which i watch on the PS4 but then only the video is working and no sound. Then i tested the same on the PS3 and also the same issue. Now ii want to ask if you could add support for that codec?
I will attach the xml files of 2 files on which the sound does not work on the PS3 and PS4. On other platforms the sound works. In the Windows APP or Android App. Do you need some more information?
The codecs used on the PS3/PS4 are completely controlled by Sony. Plex cannot add in support for additional codecs unless Sony adds support and grants it to Plex.
Yeah sorry i mean to support it with transcode…I mean nearly every file and format can be transcoded by Plex on the fly, so that the PS4 can play it. This could be done for this movies also or not? It is MP4 container with h264 and ac3 audio codec, which i have other Movies that work…so it must be somewhere a problem with transcoding or not?
I mean i have a lot files with MP4 container h264 video codec and AC3 Audio Codec and they work on the Playstation 4. Something is wrong with that 2 files…normally i would just replace the 2 files but in the last time i see more and more files with the audio problem and i would like to know why…i am sure this can be fixed.
I had some similar (but maybe unrelated) issue with Bravia Smart TV: sometimes with AC3 2.0 or AC3 1.0 there’s no audio from the TV (everything works well with AC3 5.1). If I go in the plex player settings and disable AC3 (sometimes I need to disable DTS, don’t know why) then Plex starts transcoding audio and I can hear it 
I checked it now. The two files which the audio doesent work are also AC3 5.1 and all other files i have with MP4 Container and h264 video codec and AC3 audio codec are also AC3 5.1 and they work. There must be some difference between these files and i hope plex can fix this.
Can you provide detailed data regarding one file that works and one that does stay “silent”? Like bitrate and other details you can find from the xml info of the movie
@zpaolo11x im sorry but the behaviour have changed. I cannot find any mp4 file with ac3 5.1 codec which the audio work, but im sure i watched some of them some time ago. Now its lnearly same like you wrote a post above. When i disable AC3 on the PS4 in the Plex settings i have audio but the files are all AC3 5.1. But why is that like that? i would like to have AC3 enabled…could that not be fixed? Or do wee need to change that in the settings everytime when the audio not work?
Could that be fixed or is that the normal behaviour? Do wee need to uncheck the setting AC3 on PS3 and PS4 everytime we have a mp4 file with h264 and AC3 5.1? I mean Plex just does not start to transcode in that case if the setting is enabled. That should be fixable or not?
Could that be fixed? Is there any hope, that we do not need to change the setting for specific files in future?
Argh, I was fighting through this issue for couple of weeks now, as I could only watch some of my MP4 movies, and not all of them on Playstation. After digging through the technical stuff, I understood that the problem is the video codec. Look into this tutorial that explains how to fix mp4 files to play on playstation 3 / 4.
