Sometimes the bitrate and resolution are not enough to determine which version someone wants to play.
Could you please add the audio language to the “Play Version” modal?
Currently I use edition tags, but since is the same cut of the movie, it doesn’t seem right, and clutters the grid.
Why not combining all the audio streams into one file? If it is the same cut anyway, surely they would fit?
On screen text may be different, without it being an extended/director’s/etc. cut.
There’s already an existing suggestion discussing how to improve the “play version” modal by adding more details to the options – OP suggests to include the file name but there’s also comments to include details on the audio/subtitle tracks/languages.

Thanks for the suggestion. I think I get your point, but some things come to mind after going through that whole thread…
{edition-*}.Filenames on the modal are acceptable to me, but maybe Plex’s decision makers don’t want “ugly” filenames on that modal.
Editions are supposed to be for different cuts of a movie.
Versions should be able to resume about the same place with the same timestamp.

That feature request is more about editions than versions.
I’ll argue that this request is in line with the concept of versions.
Big movies and family friendly animation localize text, and even on screen jokes for different markets, so combining the audio with one video is not always desirable.
That doesn’t change the runtime or make them special editions.
The audio language is enough to differentiate them.
I don’t oppose other metadata, just trying to keep this FR simple.
I realize that my humble single vote might not make a difference.

In a way, those are different editions/cuts.
I have a number of those, e.g. Star Wars features with the flying text of the opening or Pixar films where important texts are localized (e.g. titles, newspaper clips, signs, shop names…). Just as a side note: because their visuals are localized, doesn’t mean they’re restricted to the same language audio tracks… you can still have a full set of audio tracks in each cut.
I’ve organized mine as different editions and grouped them in a collection (e.g. „English Editions“ compared to my native language).
They can be, yes, depending on the user and the definition of the words.
In the context of this forum I try to use “edition”/“version” as Plex implements them.
Editions have their own field to name them. Plex can’t really have a preference over which to play; for example: “Director’s Cut” vs “Final Cut”.

If not as versions, another option is organize them with separate Libraries, to not use the edition field for that.
I think versions are for parameters for which the Plex player can make a decision of which to play. Language preference is certainly one of them.

That’s a very good point.
But the order of those audio tracks can change so that the first one matches the visuals.
The modal should display them in that order.
