I have noticed this just since the previous two updates to the Plex Server program. Some files play at normal speed, others sound like they are being stirred around very slowly in the bottom of a bucket before being poured out like molasses. Any ideas as to why this might be happening?
Here’s one that displays this behavior:
I’d really like to get this sorted as I play a lot of music through my TV surround system. Linux Desktop, Windows 10 Desktop and Android app all work fine.
Same issue for me - the same files playing super slow on TCL/Roku play perfectly when going through apple TV instead - has to be a setting but I haven’t been able to find it.
I hope it helps someone else - I compared the file info on a song that was playing in slow-mo with one that played normally, and found that the songs playing in slow-mo were all encoded at a rate of 96hz. I converted the slow-mo flac files to 44hz (44100) and the problem went away. So in the example posted by Jeff Wayne at the top, that file is encoded at 24hz. Convert that to 44 and it will probably fix the issue for you.
Thanks for the input, the things you’ve mentioned do make sense, yet the method of reencoding all of my FLAC files is a non starter when they were playing perfectly fine before those questionable updates. This is a problem that the Plex team needs to address. I am a lifetime Plex Pass subscriber and if I had known that something like this was gonna go unaddressed for so long, or maybe forever, I would have never paid for a lifetime sub. I am at the point now where I am about ready to ditch Plex and switch over to Jellyfin.
I’m not sure that the issue lies with Plex, as I can play all of my files without the mentioned fix on my phone, on my PC - anywhere except the TCL/Roku tv.
As to Jellyfin, my personal opinion is that it has a LONG way to go before it functions as well as Plex. I tried it out a few months ago and as a music server it’s really poor.
Myself, I am quite certain that the problem lies with Plex, whether it be on the server side, or a problem with the app on the TV. As I stated earlier in my OP, this all started around the time of Plex updates. The FLAC files played fine beforehand. And I have made no changes to my setup during this period.
