Audio out of sync

My issue is clearly Plex server related. I have some 4k video which I had on a Qnap NAS with plex server on the NAS. They play fine from there, I moved the files to a Windows based Plex server and getting sound going out of sync now. HD files and lower don’t have any problems. Same playback devices (Samsung TV and Sony TV).

Audio sync is “always” a problem in PLEX and it’s kind of a pain they can’t get it fixed. Agree it’s dependent on containers and codecs etc. However the one thing I have found it MOST dependent on is the framerate of the source. If the source is 59.94FPS or broadcast TV at 29.97i or 29.97P, no sync issues. However at 23.976P film sources, always a ~250ms delay. Since it’s reproducible, I have a “scene” set on my Yamaha AVR for various audio delay lip sync settings and can go right to the proper sync. This is true for Roku or Apple TV or Shields all hooked to the Yamaha AVR.

For a Shield that’s attached to a large Samsung ATMOS soundbar, there is NEVER any audio sync issues of any sort.

I always keep frame rate switching, HDMI direct, DirectPlay, etc., on no matter what.

Ergo, the PLEX player(s) is doing something a little funky–but always consistently funky–depending on the connected devices, and depending on the frame rate of sources. YMMV.

I tend not to watch playbacks from my motorcycle rides and events with my Sonos system turned on (too much wind noise when we’re moving, so unmuting for just the talking doesn’t really warrant surround sound), but I’ll give it a try, Thanks for the idea. But the fact the same footage plays from the NAS Plex server in sync, and the Windows Plex server is out of sync on the 4K footage but not on HD or lower is weird…

It’s really clear that they want our money. But don’t want to support us. There should really be a way to decern what is causing desync.

Dear Plex… anything on this issue? This thread has been open for years.

Wow! almost 90k views and 165 posts! That’s amazing! I think the reason Plex is not responding on this is because the possible causes are many. Here’s an example of that and it’s not even Plex related - I installed a bluetooth speaker on my mother’s TV. The speaker is one of those fast bluetooth speakers, and it sits on the end table beside her (she has hearing problems). I first tried to plug the speaker transceiver into the TV optical audio out. The TV doesn’t have any obvious sync problems, but with the fast bluetooth speaker plugged into the TV, the combination of the slight processing delay by the TV and the speaker (even though it’s a fast one), the audio sync became a problem. However, when I moved the speaker transceiver to the cable box instead of the TV, there was no apparent audio sync problem. So, with just the TV speaker alone, or just the bluetooth speaker alone, there is no audio sync problem. But put them together and the slight (and invisible) delays added together and became visible.

In my case, after updating to Version 1.23.3.4707, I observed that audio was out of sync by a little in TV and Movies. Rebooting my Plex server did not correct it. I updated and rebooted my Roku and everything was nominal again. Hoping this helps someone else.

I had the same problem with Plex. The audio was just a fraction off.
I noticed I had no problem with the Roku Model 3. My problem was with the Roku Ultra.
Steps I did.
1 - Disconnect the power from the router then connected it again.

2 - In Roku Ultra I went to:
SETTINGS>>> Advanced System Settings>>> Advanced Display Settings >>> Auto Adjust Display Refresh rate>>> Make sure you tick ‘off’.

3- Disconnect power, then re-connect power.

Doing the above set my audio in-synch.
