Audio out of sync

This is happening with all my video. I thought it was just a couple of movies until I went back and tested stuff I’d already watched without issue. It was then I discovered that it’s happening to all video. This is something new as I’ve had no issues for the many years I’ve been running Plex Plus.

I have found a solution, that works for me. Disabling direct play, does the trick. Then the video / audio lines up correctly. Looking at the server the player, Roku, then uses direct stream. So its something to do with direct play.

Seeing the same on NVIDIA Shield Pros. This had all been fine seemingly until a couple of weeks ago. Plex client version is 8.12.1.22702.

For me it happens with 5.1 AC3 content, but not with 5.1 EAC3. Shows will start off for a few seconds fine, then quickly fall out of sync. Open the files in VLC or something and the content is for sure fine.

At least in 8.12.1.22702, the ability to turn off the ‘experimental’ video seems to have disappeared, so there is no going back.

While turning off direct play may be an option, that’s just terrible. (Side note, for those complaining about sync and Roku, there’s another huge thread specific to Roku and their latest firmware update, which Plex says is their fault)

if Everyone votes this up, maybe the developers will finally address this.

I don’t know if this is what is happening though. the audio sync we’re discussing is an actual bug. not an all the time issue. I feel that the enhancement is for a setting to allow us to choose an offset. My receiver has this built in. I can delay or advance the audio to video some amount of ms. I don’t remember what the time difference can be. I don’t use it.

The issue here is that either at the start of a livetv stream, or partly through it the audio falls out of sync with the video.

Additionally, starting earlier this week? So maybe the latest update? I am now getting a super weird issue with the shield app. Instead of audio lagging behind the video, it seems to speed way up. It sounds like the chipmunks. And the yellow spin wheel happens. Sorta hard to explain. But basically, I have to force stop the app or it keeps happening.

I have logs if anybody is interested from plex. This is getting ridiculous. Can we please have some sort of response here? I am a paying customer. And this kind of support is unacceptable.

please, can we get somebody to fix this??

No fixes or issues with specific hardware would be required if Plex would just implement XBMC-like audio syncing capabilities across its offerings. Remember XBMC? That Plex was founded on? The backbone of Plex? It had the ability to adjust the audio sync as needed. It often took a little trial and error but it’s better than this guess of if whether it’s the Roku’s, the file’s, the transcoding, or the display settings on the TV’s fault.

No updates at all? Nothing from plex?

Don’t expect much. If you look back through this and most other threads it’s clear they are not monitoring or not interested in engaging with their paying customers… and engaging is a stretch. Some of us would consider acknowledgement a step in the right direction but that doesn’t seem to be forthcoming either.

Oh I know… just acknowledgement would be nice. So frustrating. They have us by our balls… Nothing out there really keeping hybrid cord cutters around. So we get this, or nothin. And I know there are other platforms out there, but they are not really that great in the dvr dept. So we get to deal with plex. multiple lifetime subs from me and family and friends, and it doesn’t get us any type of support.

Starting with 9.4.0 firmware (Roku OS) there has been an audio sync delay affecting direct play on some Roku models, and is very dependent on the file container/codecs as well as the connected devices (TV speakers, optical out, arc, etc). This audio delay can also be seen if you play the same video in the Roku Media Player. The audio sync delay goes away if the video is direct streamed using a transcode session (by disabling direct play), pointing to something in the firmware handling when direct playing a file. We have notified Roku a while ago about this issue, and have recently attempted to ask for an update. We have yet to hear back.

Did you even watch the video I posted above? This is NOT an audio sync delay LOL. And it also seems to only happen with commercials. I mean, yes, there is a sync issue and HAS been there for a few years now. I’ve not seen it with our rokus much, but see it with the shield a lot. and also literally right now on chrome watching tv on my pc the audio is out of sync. if I back up 10 seconds, the audio is in sync again.

Sorry for the confusion. This thread dates back to 2018 and is only tagged for Roku, so I was speaking specifically for the Roku “Audio out of sync” issue. I would suggest to create a new thread, tagged with the platform(s) you are experiencing this on to get the right eyes. I have yet to see your specific example on the Roku.

I’m seeing the same audio sync issues on multiple players (shield/LG), gets worse when something is paused too. PMS Version 1.21.4.4079. Disabling direct play stops this issue. Seems to be on AC-3 audio streams.

I have just picked up an LG TV and have now seen audio out of sync issues too. I won’t continue using the LG app as the Live TV/DVR experience is inferior to the Roku or Firestick (No recording capabilities or preview EPG guide- grrr!) but my issue again was the MP3 transcode problem which originally started on Roku’s… which then moved to Firesticks and also now seems to be an issue on LG’s Plex app too.

As I have been told previously by some helpful users on this forum there are 2 bugs kicking around… I’ve personally only experienced the MP3 transcode problem now on every different device I’ve used, LOL. Might be worth seeing what your dashboard is saying when playing something.

I just discovered all my files with 24.114fps are having audio sync issues. After re ripping and re encoding to 23.976fps audio sync seems to be fixed.

I have discovered that Plex does not like layer 2 Mpeg audio. If you switch your encoder settings to AAC audio the sync will stay locked on playback through Plex.

My issue is with livetv from comcast… So if you could let me know how to get them to change their encoding…
