Audio passthrough doesn't work at all on the new Google tv chromecast

Getting audio passthrough through the current android tv app works horribly. Movies won’t even stream locally when I turn this setting on. Live tv with my hd homerun has choppy audio.

I turn off passthrough and everything works as it should.

On mine it passes through Ac3 and EAC3 fine. As far as I can tell chromecast devices do not support DTS passthrough and it fails playback when the app tries because the device is not telling the app it cannot.

if you enable Optical Passthough and only select AC3 Dolby Digital) it will at least get the server to convert all non-AC3 to AC3 so you can at least get 5.1 rather than 2.0 PCM. (what happens on my receiver anyway)

I’ve made a bug report for this but our Android devs who are mostly outside of the US are not able to get their hands on one yet.

Have the devs been able to get one of these yet?

Hi BigWheel, do you have any other settings that you changed to get the AC3 passthrough to work?

I can’t get it to work for me with the Plex client on CCWGTV at all. I tried setting Optical Passthrough, and only checked AC3, but the player always puts up an error dialog when I try to play a file with AC3 audio. The interesting thing is that I can get the same file to play (with full 5.1) on that that dongle if I use the Kodi app with the Plex add-on. So I know it’s not my hardware, or the server.

More details and logs are in this post: Can't get AC3 passthrough to work on Chromecast with Google TV

I set mine to Optical with AC3 checked, but then no audio was passed to a pair of connected bluetooth headphones. If I disable passthrough, the headphones get audio. Does anybody else run into this issue?

Update: Turning off AC3 encoding allows the bluetooth headphones to work, but then I don’t get 5 channel through my sound system. Trying to set passthrough to HDMI throws an error when I try to play something.

I had no issue with AC3 or EAC3 passthrough, default settings worked fine for me. I only could not get DTS to work with my receiver. Though DTS works fine when it is connected directly to my TV

a couple of them yes but they have not figured out what the issue is yet.

Thanks Big Wheel. Hopefully one of the Android devs can look at my posted logs and diagnose my AC3 issue.

I’ve tried everything and nothing work. All possible settings on my plex android app.

I’ve got a google chromecast connecter to my TV, converting to toslink (SPDIF) and connected to a Logitech Z906. The decode light of my sound system doesn’t light

Any chances this will get fixed? still having this issue…have set it to Optical for now as others suggested.

How or where do you turn off passthrough? @locks66
