This thread helped: Audio passthrough doesn't work at all on the new Google tv chromecast
I switched my RokuTV to Audio Passthrough rather than manually selecting the supported Audio Formats. I then went to the Plex App and selected Optical Passthrough, ticked AC3 and DTS --> Success.
