Audio stops randomly and has other bizarre behaviour

I have always had the problem of audio just stopping (while this does not happen on video).
Now however it has started stopping after two tracks.
It also seems stuck on shuffle (this is off in the general settings).
When playing an artist radio it selects other artists (however this may be my misunderstanding of the intention of this feature).
Any help much appreciated.
