Audio transcoding

Server Version#: PlexMediaServer-1.14.1.5488

Hi I have a synology ds218+ with PMS on it. I have a sonos sound system connected to my tv, and unfortunately sonos does not support DTS. This means that every time I play a dts movie, I do not get sound.

I was hoping that I could get PMS to transcode the audio to dolby digital so I would have sound. However, I’ve been looking and cannot find any audio settings in PMS.

Is it possible to transcode the sound? If so, where can I find it in the settings?

yes, it receives dts audio because the it’s using native plex app from samsung, which supports it. However, I have a Sonos sound system which does not support dts. so while the tv might support it, my audio setup doesn’t.

Not really sure why plex looks at the plex app for dts support because that does not tell the whole story as not only the app must support it, but also the audio device.

Is there no way to force audio transcoding for dts audio without manual adjustments to the source files? Seems weird right?

I agree, both plex and my tv support DTS. But that isn’t the whole picture as the third part (the soundbar doesn’t support it).

I’ve got a sonos soundsystem playbar+sub+2x sonos 1 which costs approx 1800 eur. So buying a new set isn’t really an option.

I just think its weird that there is no way to force transcoding. Probably not the only one with this issue given the popularity of Sonos.

I don’t agree with that statement. A file needs to be transcoded if it cannot be played. Whether thats from a video perspective or an audio perspective.

software should support hardware, not the other way around. Saying that Sonos is a poor choice of equipment is insulting to a lot of people who buy these systems. I agree that they should just support dts. But if it isn’t supported, it should be noticed by the software which is used to play things. If not possible, make a button where you can force transcodign for all things dts, dd, etc…
