Question regarding audio output

Hey guys,

I have to following setup. Samsung TV (KS 7090) + Sonos Playbase connected directly via optical cable. For the ones who don’t know Sonos doesn’t support DTS so I need a Dolby Digital signal.

What I tried first was using the DLNA player from the Samsung TV directly to play a MKV file from my NAS. The MKV file has DTS sound. So it was clear there won’t be any sound from the Sonos bar. I had to switch to audio output from the Samsung TV to PCM to make it work.

My next step was to install PMS on my PC and the Plex App on my TV. I did a basic setup with default configuration and played the same file via Plex App. The App said it has DTS audio but the Sonos played the audio perfectly via Dolby Digital.

I’m more the happy that it works but I want to understand it. I didn’t change anything regarding audio convert or something like this.
Can anyony explain this to me?

If it’s really just the combination PMX and Plex App, then I’ll set up a Rasperry to just provide to PMS.

Thank you!

Thank you very much trumpy. I found it under the currently playing section on the server. It said trancoding audio to AAC.

Ok, the RPi isn’t the right thing than. What is the cheapest hardware I can get for just audio transcoding because that’s all I need to get rid of this DTS without switching to PCM.

Nvidia Shield TV?

Thanks Trumpy. Happy new year to you too.
