Audio Trascoding + SRT Subtitle = Video Transcoding - Easy reproducible Bug with Testfile!

Hey,

there is a issue with the Audio-transcoding in combination with srt subtitles. I’m referencing to this issue.

TL;DR: Subtitles play fine without Video-transcoding but when Audio-transcoding is required then it’ll transcode the video (for no reason) to burn the subtitles in.

This issue is really simple to recreate.

  1. Create Video Libary and drop the repo MKV in it
  2. Play the Video with mp3 Audio and Subtitle enabled to ensure your device can display srt Subtitles fine without Video-transcoding
  3. Disable Subtitles and switch to ac3 or dts audio to see that Audio-transcoding is required
  4. Enable SRT subtitles with ac3 or dts audio and you’ll see, that it transcode the video for ZERO reason.

Hopefully this now get fixed after over a year.

I can confirm this issue on Sony TV (Android 5), on my Phone (Android 7) and on the Tablet (Android 4).

Any official statement?

Here a great example wiith a 1080p video on my G4400:

4k Videos aren’t even playable via the Android App (due this bug) but plays fine in Plex for Kodi. (Alot of 1080p content doesn’t work as well -> higher bitrate than this example -> cpu too slow)

Where are your logs?
