Audio<>video out of sync issue

Server Version#: latest (multiple)
Player Version#: latest (multiple)
Chromecast with Google TV#: latest (multiple OS updates, most recently today)

Hello, it’s been a year since my Plex on Chromecast with Google TV is unusable because of a severe audio sync issue described in this thread. The issue has been acknowledged as known there too by @BigWheel (sorry for tagging).

Since first reported I’ve tried everything on Earth to fix it and noticed some additional things:

  1. Audio delay is somewhat reduced when using more processing-heavy Picture Modes on my TV, but I hate soap-opera-effect, so I always use least processing intensive Game mode. In Game mode, audio delay is most pronounced.
  2. Audio delay is much reduced or non-existant when using TV’s internal speakers instead of a Soundbar.
  3. Audio delay is much reduced when I turn off Surround sound option if Chromecast options (but then, obviously, I loose 5.1 sound!)
  4. Adjusting AV Sync option available on my LG TV has no effect

I suspect the issue could be worked around by plugging Chromecast directly to the soundbar, but unfortunately Sony HT-S20R only provides one HDMI port which I use for ARC connection to the TV, so this is not available to me.

It would be great to know if it’s still being investigated or if it’s been decided to be Chromecast’s fault etc. Is it the same issue as this popular one?

Is there any hope? For now, I’m using LG WebOS Plex app which has no audio lag under the same setup, but I constantly worry it’s gonna get updated and I will be without a working setup.

If it’s impossible to fix, maybe one option would be to provide Audio (/video) delay option in Android Plex settings?

Thank you for any information.

Regards
m.
