So new music many times comes out Friday so i often on Friday morning import my albums into plex for the weekend.
When i import albums that just released, there is often times no album to tag it to, so the album then is missing the year / date of release, and thus not organized to the top of the list, nor are the songs available to get tagged into the most popular.
I typically have to wait 3-5 days until the album shows up in the Plex music metadata, then manually match. Is there an automatic way of doing this so that albums previously not tagged get automatically tagged once the album is out? it’s quite tedious keeping track of dozens of albums that weren’t tagged that i need to then manually match once the album populates into the Plex Music database to find its match.
Plex uses the Musicbrainz database. If the details about a release are issued prior to the release then this info can already be added to the database ahead of release. If you tag your albums with a tagger like musicbrainz picard then it can help Plex match newly added albums.
Musicbrainz is a user-maintained database so anyone can contribute, and there are quite a few tools that people have come up with to help adding releases to the database such as harmony and Userscripts
I’m asking a separate issue….when you add an album on the day it releases, often the release isn’t on Plex music metadata (I suppose musicbrainz back end?).
But 3-5 days later it will get added to musicbrainz / Plex music metadata. How do you make sure the album gets properly matched without manually backtracking to the album and manually matching it? Is there an automated way to match albums in library that don’t have a match yet?
Otherwise I add say a dozen albums then write down the list and have to check back Ina week and manually match them so the album date gets populated and it’s tracks can then show up in the artist’s popular tracks section
Not sure of any ‘automated’ way but at least you don’t need to write them all down - in plex web when viewing albums there is a drop down menu with “unmatched” as an option which then filters by only unmatched albums.
Well you can multi select and refresh metadata which might work, but to my mind the best way is as I said before - make sure the releases are on musicbrainz already and your files are well named/tagged and they will auto match straight away
