Auto quality is just awful

I have a 50Mbps connection, auto quality just sucks. I’ve never seen it go above 5Mbps. It will go to this “higher quality” for a few moments and then the quality is back down to 1Mbps again and the video quality is awful.

This feature is useless!

Yes, unfortunately. I bought PP because of this feature, but since introducing nothing really happend.
I pinged Elan twice but no answer/reaction! Very sad…but this is how Plex works. I am very disappointed.
I thought it is ALWAYS a bad Connection, but for example the same Show/series Plays with the same mbps no matter what. I can stop the serie and start a movie and here I have the mbps I want. Setting is 2mbps and in the first case it Plays with ca 1mbps and the movie with round About 2mbps as it should.

What’s the maximum internet speed at the remote location?

In my case between 25Mbps and 50Mbps. That is all good.

1000Mbps @darcilicious

If your remote users are on Windows or MacOS systems, try Plex Media Player instead of Plex Web.

PMP direct plays more media than Plex Web. If the media direct plays, then Auto Quality will not engage and the media will not be transcoded (according to docs, see below).

Also, make sure Internet video quality is set to maximum in PMP settings. It might default to a lower setting when initially installed.
Settings -> Plex Media Player -> Quality -> Internet Streaming -> Video Quality = Maximum.

The Plex apps only select auto quality in situations where a video already needs to be converted (transcoded) for playback. It does not interfere with playing videos at their original quality (sometimes called Direct Play or Direct Stream).
