Plex already has an optimise solution which not only creates media files optimised for your selected usage but also renames them using the format “Film Name (year).mp4” What would be great is if this process could happen automatically either scheduled or on addition of a new file to the library and…

I cant beleive no one else on planet earth is interested in an automated library optimization function… What is everyone else doing to optimize and tidy their movies folder then ?

If I have content that requires transcoding I use ffmpeg outside of Plex. It’s not something that needs to be done that often.
