Automatic "Play Version" on PS4 always picks 4K if available

I often have 2-3 versions of a video usually 4k-hevc and 1080p-hevc and sometimes 720p-hevc for my mobile devices.
When playing somethin on the PS4, the plex app chooses the 4k version where plex server needs to transcode but my 1050 Ti is not sufficient for 4k and it hangs every few seconds or so. If I manually select 1080p-hevc, the server still transcodes but the performance is sufficient and there is no problem with playback.
Can I set the PS4 player app to automatically choose a 1080p source (with any encoding) or reversely the server to stream 1080p per default to PS4?

I would check the playback limit in your Plex settings. Try setting the video quality to the maximum you want it to stream and see if that helps.

Will this set the limit for all devices? We have a 4K LG TV that plays anything 4K from Plex so far. That would be a pitty to restrict it.
Also, all devices are in our LAN. I don’t use Plex for streaming outside our home. If needed I download a video to the tablet or mobile to take with us.
