Automatic quality won't play untill I turn it off and on

Edit : I’ve noticed it only happens if I turn on automatic refresh rate switching on the Plex client

When I set the android client not to automatically adjust quality, it chooses the “original quality” by default (which is fine, as I’m playing mkv x264 which the device can handle natively), but it keeps loading forever on the blurred background and loading circle animation. If I switch it to automatically convert and then back to original it starts playing immediately without transcoding (I’ve double checked my server cpu).

Side note: I’d like to use the automatic quality option just for my convenience, but whenever I choose it the client defaults to the convert option on every play and I have to manually select original quality
