Automatically Group Multi-part episodes in Season UI

If I have a multipart episode in a single file (show - S01E01E02 - title.ext), have Plex highlight all episodes in the season UI with some sort of ‘grouped rectangle’ that highlights around all of the episode thumbnails contained in the multi-part file along with maybe a tag in the corner of said rectangle showing this ‘group’ is a multipart episode. So as I’m scrolling through the episodes in a season, multipart episodes are automatically considered one item when scrolling

This would make it easy for people to know at a glance that a multipart episode is what they are selecting to play. Once that episode is over, plex then moves onto the next non-grouped episode. This would prevent the current behavior where plex basically plays the same multipart episode twice in a row.

This is a crude example, but basically a simple UI change similar to this. Just a simple box that wraps around both thumbnails as your scrolling whenever there is a multipart episode.

Try file (show - S01E01-E02 - title.ext)

Thanks for the tip, but that made no difference. I still get two separate thumbnails/episode listings that effectively play the same file. That has always been the behavior plex has had with multipart episodes regardless if you include a ‘-’ or not. Honestly, I want that behavior and don’t want that part to change.

What my suggestion is trying to resolve is how the UI treats those 2 episode listings. Because plex shows both episode 1 and 2 in the UI as separate distinct thumbnails even though those entries point to the same file, they should be grouped together when scrolling through episodes. That way when I finish watching that multipart episode, plex moves onto the real next episode (which in this case would be episode 3). Right now, if I start at episode 1 and it finishes playing, it moves onto episode 2, effectively playing the same file again.

nydave69 was referring at the typo in your file names. If you leave out the -, Plex could miss that this file actually contains multiple episodes.

As fro your suggestion…
There’s an existing suggestion asking to show multi-episode files as a single item in your library (e.g. combining the episode titles and descriptions contained in that item).

If that’s what you’re aiming for, I suggest you comment/vote in that thread and we close this one in order to avoid distracting votes.

Thanks Tom. I went and voted on that thread per your suggestion. It’s basically the same ask. Have yourself a great day!

In that case, let’s close this one… this way you can also reclaim your vote
