Server Version#: 1.32.6.7468
Player Version#:8.25(6861)
I have three AppleTVs (newest 4k, previous 4k model, and the model before that). Since upgrading to tvOS 17.0(21J354), auto-play has stopped working. Even manually starting to play a video doesn’t work sometimes. Status shows playing, but nothing happens and time increment doesn’t change. Hitting the play button to pause, and then resume (sometimes required to do that multiple times) usually gets video playing, but not always. Fully exiting the app and re-opening it sometimes works. Rebooting the AppleTV always works. The fixes are only temporary and the problem re-occurs within 24hrs. I usually have HomePods set as audio output devices, but the problem also happens when using TV speakers or my theater surround sound setup. If I pause whatever is playing on Plex and the screensaver starts, I cannot resume playback without fully closing Plex and re-opening it.
I run the beta channel updates on my oldest AppleTV. The problem started when that AppleTV upgraded to tvOS17 a couple months ago, but I thought it was an issue with the old AppleTV, not Plex. But now that all devices have been upgraded to public-release tvOS17, I’m seeing the issue on all my AppleTVs,
Also, the first 5-10 seconds of video usually stutters when playing hevc/x265 videos. I don’t care about that, but thought I’d mention it.
Thanks for posting this, I’ve disabled auto updates on my apple tv as a result. I did see a comment here mentioning something, but am clueless about which settings they mention. Apple TV 4K tvOS 17 update stuttering : PleX
I am having same issue. Trying to start a single episode it will hang at black screen. I can scan ahead into episode and the plays. When play or shuffle playlist, it hangs on second episode. My profile is main. On my wifes, it works fine so far.
I’m also having this issue. I can pause, then unpause after the new video loads, and that will let me continue for one more episode, but after that I have to exit the player and re-launch the next episode for playback to continue.
To add to the problem, if I’m playing anything from a playlist, it takes WAY longer to load than it did pre-tvOS17
ETA: I changed my settings to use the old video player and the auto-play issue went away
As mentioned in the other thread about the same issues.
“Same thing happening here with the auto play going to a black screen as described.
Worked fine before the iOS 17 updates but since then nothing.
Checked and confirmed that works fine when watching from Other devices (Hisense TV version of Plex player or Mac & PC players) so not an issue server side by the looks of it.”
Basically renders plex useless for anything but manual single episode playback.
I’ve seen your “stutter” issue on occasion also. I thought it was just my server having issues buffering. I’ve noticed I can make it go away by hitting “back” which takes you back about 10seconds. This seems to not restart the video buffer but set you back in the buffer a bit giving you more “head room”.
Now that I hear other are seeing this too, I’m more inclined to believe the “stutter” is an app buffer problem.
I have two Apple TV 4K 128GB of the latest generation. Both devices are running tvOS 17. I can reproduce the problem. However, only on the device that is connected via WiFi. On the device connected via LAN, everything works as before tvOS 17.
