"Autoremux mkv to your needs" on Plexserver

Im one of many who recently bought an LG G5 83” who has a lot of problems playing mkv files via Plex on LG Smart TV. “app-will-now-restart-to-free-up-more-memory”

A cool feature request since my MKVmerge or MKVtoolnix is rather none existing in ssh , shell.. etc..

Im a type of user who just watch the content “out of the box” , but going deeper with remuxing tools etc, its out of my league.

A cool option in Plex web would be:

Do you want to enable Plex to remux with minimum subs and sounds to your choosing?

Flag your subtitles and sound options.

Once a new file is detected - Plex server to remux the file to a temp directory and move it back to the desired folder.

Think that it would help tons of users since they arent tech nerds like some people are.

Problem seems to be newer tv models has less memory which causes the app to crash on the TV.

My personal Plexplayer is usually the TV on my LG tvs, but since I bought the G5 model from LG - it crash so often that I dont use the plex player anymore. I only use it on my AppleTV4K for now. I like the player best on the TV - seems way more smooth.

Just a thought

There are certainly command line versions of mkvtoolnix available.

ffmpeg is also an option for remuxing on the command line.

@OttoKerner I know . But it would be more beneficial for users to just know that the plex server handled it for you .. automatically?

So many features in Plex, why not add another one. ?

Because it would need to be tested, debugged, and continually getting re-tested.
Developer hours are scarce already, getting all the existing features right.

One could argue that you could already use the existing Optimize feature in Plex.

If that is not what you envisaged, I recommend you to look towards the various *arr apps. I’m pretty sure that at least one of them can do what you want.

arr apps cant do that ( as im aware of ).

Have you read the post through what the issue is?

Well its was just a thought .

Just get a Firestick or something similar instead of trying to deal with slow and bad smart TV apps. Right now the non-4k is on sale on Amazon for $17, and the 4k one is still only $40.

It’s crazy that a $5000+ TV has these problems, but that’s the state of smart TVs. Solving your problem by spending pennies in comparison is just an easy fix.

If you have some shell scripting skills, they can.
I use the “Connect” feature for that purpose.

All OTA series are processed before they are accepted.
What I get is a complete, as I want it, episode file.
