Hi!
Since last updates on server and FireTV I have a problem with playing AVI videos.
The server resides on a Synology NAS and is running 1.12.0.4829. It is connected to LAN
The FireTV (first gen) is connected to LAN and is running 6.14.1.
Both devices are connected to the same switch with GBit.
I download movies and series from OnlineTVRecorder (movies with commercial like recorded manually). They deliver the files as AVI with 576p (H264).
When I play these files via the FireTV it is like the movie is running in slow motion. The server tells me the video and audio is played directly.
And now it is getting curious. I can play mp4-movies (grabbed from my BlueRays) in 1080p on FireTV without any problem, it is running just fine.
I can also watch the “slow-mo” movies with my Smart-TV without problems, it is using the Plex Opera version and the handling is not that fast so I would prefer the FireTV. It is running fine with the browser player as well.
All in all I do not see any network related issues nor a problem on the server. I played around with settings like “choose quality automatically” but it does not help. The FireTV always tries to play directly and this does not work any more.
Convert the AVI to H.264 (not the same thing) and try a real H.264 version on the FireTV.
The FireTV probably can’t use hardware decoding on the AVI file while it can for your 1080p H.264 files.
Hi again!
Did you find something? Sorry for questioning but it is very circuitous to use the app on my TV because the handling is very slow but also with newer versions of the Plex app on the FireTV it the movies are still playing like slow-mo. And as I told it worked fine before some update (that I have not noticed).
