Avoid transcoding for iPad downloads

Hi fellow Plexians,

I am running Plex for several years now on a Synology DS216+II and for years I can’t figure out why the hell Plex is transcoding every ■■■■■■■ file that I try to stream or download.

In this moment I try to download 3 episodes on my iPad and it is slower than the running time of the show itself. Wouldn’t it be easier to build in some decoder within the Plex app? Are the guys behind Plex fooling with us that they have to transcode everything? Didn’t they notice that we have 2022?

Is there anything I can do on my side to skip transcoding and download and play shows and movies on my iPad?

I would’ve bought a Lifetime pass for years if they would ever fix this. Its really ridiculous.

I just downloaded Infuse and downloaded 5 shows in 5 minutes. Plex is not even half finished with the first one.

in the main settings of the plex iPad app, go to the downloads section, and select “original quality”

although not sure if it will help. it seems they took a feature that worked well (sync) and replaced it with this BS downloads “feature” that doesn’t work. I’m now stuck on a train for 2 hours with nothing to watch, because I couldn’t get anything to actually download to the iPad. or if it did download, it skipped the next 2 episodes and downloaded the third of three that I asked for. so basically useless.
