Once upon a time, back in the Media Center days, I could listen to a select list of songs while browsing my entire library. That feature has been gone for over 2-3 years now (brought back briefly with the initial release of PHT-when songs could be placed in userdata/BackgroundMusic), but now this feature is gone once again (option being removed from Preferences). Now, I am not talking about the TV theme music. That works great, but only plays while you are browsing episodes within a particular TV Show. I'm speaking of 'background music' that played when you started Plex until you played any content. Like TV theme music, you could set it to play at a percentage of the actual volume level. I don't like browsing movies, home videos, pictures, or the rest of my content in complete silence. It really added to the overall Plex experience and I greatly miss this feature.
I posted about this in the PHT forum and was instructed by Tobias to post it as a feature request here. He said there would need to be some support to bring this back, so please add a comment to show you would like to have this feature!
Please bring this support to PHT! The complete silence is very annoying to me too. There are also other benefits with this functionality. Some home theater receivers will not lock on the PCM audio immediately. This is why some navigation “click” sounds do not register the first time. Maintaining the audio stream will allow the receiver to stay "linked".
Any update? The background music did make for a much more polished and professional feeling product, and I agree that the silence as you're switching between TV episodes or whatever is rather stark when you've been listening to action sequences at high volume....
