Hi guys,
First of all let me start with the simple fact that: I love Plex <3.
But I’ve got a major bone of contention that has me stuck on an old version of it and I just can’t bring myself to update it because its a feature that’s so important to me that I just can’t not have it… background music.
Like other things like Sky there’s always been a form of elevator music to listen to in the background while you’re picking what to watch, and I’ve got a great timeless piece of elevator music that fills the void of silence when plex isn’t watching a video or something (plus its great to mask the mild buzz of a plasma)and it’s something that’s served really well for these reasons (some of which I’ve described already):
a) Filling the silence when browsing what to watch/listen to
B) Making the jumps to TV show theme music not so garishly out of the blue
c) Masking plasma buzz (nobody else hears it, but I do, and thats all that matters hah!)
d) I’m used to it from things like Sky which have -always- had it, and for good reason
It was a feature that existed but was suddenly and inexplicably removed never to return, which is probably why I was even more frustrated about it because to me it took a feature away that I and others really enjoyed having; sure some people may have never even realised it was there-- it wasn’t exactly a process you just added from within the UI itself, but for those that did find it and found something they wanted to use for it, it was great.
So yeah essentially I don’t feel like I can upgrade while it doesn’t exist which is a huge shame because I want my media center to be up to date and have access to myPlex and what have you but I’m currently stuck in a timewarp that until the ability to add sound is re-added then I’m stuck.
Please, please, please consider adding it back in!
And for those curious to know what it was that I’m so interested in having in the background I’ve attached the track, if it helps my cause!
Should add that this has been going on for well over a year now trying to get this feature back in, it would be nice to see even a glimmer of a response about it

How many plex passes do I need to buy to get this feature back, or at the least be acknowledged!

I like the idea but i think it needs a more “pad element” there is to much going on the whistle and the pianao should maybe be removed or toned down.

Hey, it was up to you what you put in, that's just the track I used -- you literally just dropped an audio file in the directory, give it a certain name and hey presto it would loop in the interface, it did a great job of filling the silence, but yeah, you could totally choose the file you wanted to loop. I'm baffled why it wasn't something used by lots of people (other than the fact it wasn't a very visible feature you had to dig for it), it's nice to browse to a bit of music rather than in silence, which is why I think services like Sky do it.
Oh well yeah wonder why they took it out if it was up to the user? thats “sounds” hehe, like an awesome feature. If they bring it back ill have to spend hours to find the perfect BGM. Wouldn’t it be awesome if the BGM was server side so if you went on a friends server you got to hear different BGM? Maybe they removed it anticipation of rolling out there own background music. Branding is very important and background music can fall in that category.
According to Elan it wasn't so much that it got removed, just that it wasn't put back in :(
at least you got a better response than I have…

Now we know WHY it’s been removed, and while the “demand is low” after people find out what the background music was they generally say the same thing “Oh I didn’t know it used to do that, that sounds cool”
+1 for background music… I really dig it for the tv shows (well, I’ve only noticed it in Doctor Who), but I was very pleasantly surprised!! My only gripe is that it’s a bit loud, but that just might be specific to the Doctor Who theme file that’s being used… shrug
Anyway, I’d love to see more support for this feature in my other TV shows and Music sections as well… maybe even Movies too?
Custom theme music for individual tv shows stills still works. Look up theme music in the naming guide.
What the folks above are talking about is background music playing while you leave it on the home screen
