Backing up Plex metadata

Version 1.18.2.2058

OK, I have a Synology DS218+ that I’m resetting to JBOD from SHR. I have all my Plex media from the Media folder backed up to external device. I want to backup the metadata as I’ve spent some time getting dates and images correct, especially for my music. According to the FAQ, I would zip the Media folder to the external drive. As that will take forever, I’ve been moving folders individually to external drive. That operation is complete, but I can’t find any metadata folder at all. Is that hidden on DS218+? Where can i find that folder?

The following support article might be useful.

I’ve seen that article. I don’t have a Plex folder visible on my volume 1.

I’m not familiar with Synology, but I suspect you need to SSH in to the box to access the folder

Using SSH to access the Plex share is no longer required.

Everything needed can now be completed via the GUI.

  1. Make the share visible as shown in the referenced FAQ
  2. Stop PMS
  3. ZIP the Library directory at the top of the Plex share. (Right-click -> Compress to Library.zip)

Thanks, Chuck & basilh! That worked. IDK why I was having a brain fart about it. Noob gonna noob.

No problem! There are days when I’m my own PEBKAC!
