Where is the Plex Media Server data directory located for Synology NAS DSM 7

I want to back up my Plex Media Server data.

The Plex website says that the data on a Synology NAS is located at /Volume1/Plex/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/

This is not true in DSM 7. There is no Plex shared folder on Volume 1.

How do I back up my Plex Media Server data on a Synology NAS with DSM 7?

Plex Media Server Version 1.23.4.4775 on Synology DSM 7.0-41890

The Plex data directory is no longer accessible via File Station.

You can manually backup the information via SSH/CLI.

See this post for additional information:

  • Uninstall - KEEP option
  • Install package again - Configure logging.

Greetings!
When still dms alpha / beta 7.0 I de-silenced plex not having important archives, using mistakenly the “erase all” option
Now updated Version: 7.0-41890
I have read the discussion and done a lot of testing, but I cannot successfully install plex on synology ds718 +
Maybe you can help me by cleaning my system !?
Thank you

this here you posted
/volume1/@apphome/PlexMediaServer/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases
how do you get to this location in DSM7…? Thanks

@triks_melb and all following:

Effective PMS 1.24.2.4973, the DSM 7-equivalent of the old “Plex” share is back.

  1. Named “PlexMediaServer” (matches the package name)

  2. Can be moved but only by using Control Panel - Shared Folders API.

  3. Upgrading any DSM 7 package version to 1.24.2.4973 and above will do what’s needed automatically.

I was fortunate enough to do a fresh install but had a feeling this was going to be a rollercoaster ride for the first few releases for DSM7 - anyway all good.

so just to clarify Synology NAS releases v1.24.2.4973 and onwards - all Plex Media Server data/metadata/logs are now located in "/volume#/PlexMediaServer’ share visible within File Station?

If so can PlexMediaServer directories be deleted from @appdata @apphome @appstore and other locations?

I’ve removed my post re; mounting as there is obviously no need for that now.

I’m not sure where to put this. Forgive me if it is in the wrong spot. I used to have plex running on DSM 6, I thoroughly messed up the migration to DSM 7 and deleted my plex metadata and what i thought was everything and moved over to running plex in a docker container. I would like to go back to running plex solely on the DSM without docker, but when I try to reinstall the plex app, I think it is still trying to access my old setup. It tells me I can not access the server. Thoughts or suggestions on where to go from here? Thank you for all your help.

Thank you so much! That seemed to do the trick.

Also, one last (I hope) Question: I have a plex set up in a docker container. Is there a way to copy over all the metadata (Collections etc.) work done on that docker instance to the Synology plex so I don’t have to redo that work? Thanks for all your help.
