Hi Folks,
I’m at the end of my rope with a frustrating issue with my Plex Movies library since moving my Plex installation from a MacBook Pro to a Mac Mini a few months ago. My movie files are on a NAS, and while all the movie files are present and accessible directly, Plex will periodically mark large portions of them as either deleted (but still playable) or deleted and entirely unplayable (“File is missing” error).
Here’s what I’ve tried so far:
- Performed the “Plex Dance” on the existing Movies library.
- Renamed files and folders to trigger Plex to pick them up again—this temporarily resolves the issue until another library scan re-triggers the “deleted” state.
- Completely removed the Movies library and started fresh, which worked temporarily until subsequent scans reintroduced the same problem.
- Manually ran database corruption fixes following Plex’s recommended steps.
- Ran the PlexDBRepair tool, which reported no errors.
I’m now at a bit of a loss on what to do next. My questions are:
- Does this seem like a corrupted database issue, or should I be looking into something else? My original Plex installation (on the MacBook Pro) was up-to-date but had been in place for many years.
- Are there any other troubleshooting steps or strategies I should try? Unfortunately, I don’t have any recent uncorrupted DB backups.
- If I need to start over entirely with a new database, is there a way to preserve my existing library sharing without manually resharing everything? Specifically, can I copy and restore just the “Accounts” table in the SQLite DB to retain user shares and avoid resharing?
Thanks in advance for any help!
