Backups article don't list Synology

Folks I have a synology that runs my Plex, and I love it. My synology has had issues in the past requiring a complete reinstall of plex. This of course wiped out all the information I spent years adding to make the entries in the plex the best they can be. Looking at how to backup up the library information - shows are covered - is what I need to tackle next to make sure I don’t lose all my work, again.

BUT this isn’t listed in the support article section, submitting this post did not show a suggestion any more recent that 2014. I find ti hard to believe I am the only one wanting to do this. Perhaps I am missing it or my google searches are flawed… regardless can I get the process to backup and restore on a synology? Thank you

To make a backup of your Plex share is very easy.

  1. Stop Plex
  2. Open FileStation and navigate to the Plex share
  3. Right click Library
  4. Compress to Library.zip

This will take a while but will be a perfect clone backup of your Plex server at that instant.

ChuckPA thanks for the suggestion, unfortunately, the File Station does not show the Plex directory. I can’t find a nerd knob to change the setting of file station to allow it to be displayed.

That was my mistake. Sorry

  1. Control Panel
  2. Shared Folders
  3. Edit the Plex share
  4. Give your username Permission to see it.

Thank you ChuckPA we are getting closer. Your instructions allows me to ‘see’ the Plex directory in File Station. I set myself with RW privileges. Now that I see the directory I went back to your instructions and tried to compress/archive it… that option is not an active selection, its all grayed out. I will add a picture to this reply.

Thank you Trumpy81, what very bizarre behavior on behalf of the synology, your suggestion allowed me to back it up.

Curious though how does one restore the library? Is it a simple copy over when plex is reinstalled?

Thank you trumpy81
