I have 100 or so movies on the same hard drive, all named with the same convention, in separate folders, but a few aren’t found no matter how many times I scan or refresh my server. For example, Bambi:
Naming convention: Drive/Public/Media/Movies/Bambi/Title00.mkv
Any ideas why this specific movie doesn’t show in my Plex library. It plays if I open it directly from the hard drive location.
P.S.: Could I just rename the file “Bambi_title00.mkv” in the existing folder or, rename and drag it to the “movies” folder without corrupting the 3gb file? Might that help Plex find the file?
Ideally, you’d have Drive/Public/Media/Movies/Bambi (1942)/Bambi (1942).mkv
Programs like FileBot can help you get stuff like this organized. I totally get that it works sometimes the way you have it. If you want it to work all the time, you’ll do it this way.
Based on how you have named the media for this movie and the number of movies with that name plex most likely won’t match it or will match it incorrectly. How could it, the name does not have enough information. Best to get your naming correct as @AmazingRando24 suggests.
It should be pulling something if it’s a new movie file even if it’s not matching. It should show up with just no meta data pulled for it.
Try flipping your filters on the movie library to “unmatched” and see if it comes up there; also try “duplicates” to see if it matched to a different movie.
Renaming can work too but you might need to try the Plex Dance in that case.
Just renamed one of the missing movies and the scan picked it up. So, the only mystery is how it ever picked of any of my misnamed movies. Will start the process of manually renaming all of them. Thanks for the help! Nomad
Pure luck Actually, plex tries to be smart and will on occasion auto match with the top result but sometimes there are too many and it’ll just leave it unmatched.
