This week I ripped the following DVDs using Amirsoft DVD Ripper, a software package I have used successfully for years.
1 Call of the Wild
2 Midway 2019
3 The Stand 1
4 The Stand 2
5 Red Dawn 1984
6 Red Dawn 2012
I ripped these to C/User/Downloads. All went well, and each MP4 filed played on my computer using VLC software. I then moved the files to my NAS drive, and again ran each on with VLC to ensure they worked. All was well. I then went into www.Plex.com and had it scan library file. The procedure I have always used to add new movies. Movies 2, 3, 5, and 6 were recognized and added to my library. Movies 1, 4 did not. Why would this happen?
This is not the first time PLEX did not recognize newly added movies. What is really curious is that PLEX recognized The Stand disk 1 but did not recognize The Stand disk 2.
The two most common causes of Plex not finding files is either file naming & structure or file permissions.
Please show how you have the movies named and organized, including which directory is added to the Plex library.
The Plex Movie and Plex TV Series scanners/agents are not as lenient as the legacy scanners and agents. You should adhere to the documented naming formats as closely as possible.
There have been multiple movies and TV shows named “Call of the Wild” or “The Call of the Wild” (IMDB search) If your naming provided no way for Plex to differentiate, it may have recognized the movie incorrectly or combined it with another movie/show.
If they are the 1994 and 2020 mini-series, then they should go in a TV Show library, not a movie library. Plex does not support mixing media types in Movie and TV Show libraries.
If you want to save yourself a lot of time I would recommend using Download - tinyMediaManager and use ${title} (${year}) {imdb-${imdb}} as the new name format.
Is tinymediamanager like filebot? Is there an advantage with either?
I currently use filebot. I do wish filebot would update the properties under each file.
This TMM is really intriguing me. Can you recommend which metadata scraper to use?
I prefer TMM due to price, the v3 that I linked is free. For speed TheMovieDatabase tends to be fastest, but if you have poorer naming IMDB tends to get better results (but slower)
