Bandwidth usage with PlexConnect

My internet provider recently implemented a monthly usage cap. Does it use up bandwidth to watch media via PlexConnect?

Not from a local server - without being logged into MyPlex.

Logging into MyPlex uses a little... watching content from a shared/remote server might add a lot...

And using Channels will use bandwidth since your are streaming from the internet.

But as Baa says, just streaming your own media from your computer or NAS will not as it all occurs on the local network.

Thanks for the info guys!

Hi All,

I used the instructions on this website (https://github.com/iBaa/PlexConnect/wiki/Install-Guide) to setup up  my Apple TV on PLexConnect.

I can't figure out if it will use my bandwidth or not. I am also on an ISP with a fair usage policy and I am constantly blocked due to excessive usage.

Is it because of my ATV and PlexConnect setup?

Would appreciate any advice.

Thanks :)

This thread is 2 years old and states very specifically when Plexconnect will use external data. So unless your streaming from outside your network Plexconnect will use minimal data(read that as no data unless you count the my plex authentication checks)
