Preventing Plex From using internet data

Is there any way to prevent plex from using your internet bandwidth while on your local network without completely disabling remote access? I’ve been using my Apple TV locally on the network and it has been counting against my internet usage cap. I’ve found some other threads that have basically said you need to disable remote access to prevent it from counting against your ISP usage cap. It seems to me like there needs to be a simple select button in the application for the device you are using to receive the video that says use on local network only.

That information you got sounds wrong…
If playing your media within your home network counts against your ISP usage cap, it appears something is wrong with your network/client setup.

Remote access should only play a role when it comes to streaming your media from outside your home network. If you don’t do that, Plex should only use the internet connection to download metadata (mostly text and some pictures – that shouldn’t significantly impact your cap) and to authenticate your account (even less data).

How is are your server and Apple TV connected within your home network?

I have a pretty basic setup. Plex media server installed on my iMac. iMAC is hooked to an unmanaged 1G switch. Apple 4K TV hooked to the same switch and the modem tied to the switch. If it shouldn’t be hitting my data cap then I guess the question is what settings could make that happen? Because my usage yesterday exceeded 150G and I wasn’t using any internet services.

One other thing to note is I have had to set it up as a secured connection for the Apple TV to see the server.
