Best Device Choice For Plex Multi Room Music

I have stopped using Amazon Echo/ Echo Dot devices for playback devices for my Plex music library.

  • reason is playing “everywhere” rarely works and is now impossible.

I would like to play multi-room music from my Plex server, specifically some playlists I’ve created.

I have 4 stereos/ boomboxes available.

Do any streaming devices on the market achieve this goal?

Preferably I would like to be able to request the playlist via voice bot app like Google assistant.

If not by voice command, I could play the playlist using the Plex web app on my laptop and send the audio out to the devices over WIFI or Bluetooth.

Really not sure. I could always run wire thru the house and buy headphone amp spliter box if this is the best and/or only choice.

Is there any device like Chromecast or Google Home Mini that would work to get multi-room music working again?

Or should I wire the house and go old school?

Thanks!

Sonos has excellent multi-room synchronization, and can play directly from Sonos.

If it matters to you, it also has good “spouse acceptance factor”.

I haven’t tried voice control for playing from Plex. Alexa or Google voice assistants do both work for playing from other music services.

Disclaimer: I haven’t reviewed the state of audio streaming, and I believe some other systems are also worth considering.

I already have stereos & speakers.

Sonos does have the “Port” thing, but it’s even more expensive.

Google devices have decent audio grouping and the casting support in Plex is good. Chromecast Audio dongles could do multi-room, they were cheap and cheerful, but they’re discontinued.

Some people are still using regular Chromecasts with HDMI Splitters.
