hi, I wondered if anyone can point me in the right direction. I made a bad decision and purchased a wd 4tb my cloud only to find out I can’t run plex from it.
I returned the drive and This time I wanted to do my homework, so I looked at the compatibility list and I’m struggling to find a drive that doesn’t cost a ridiculous amount of money.
Basically all I want to know is what’s the cheapest NAS drive which Is capable of running plex.
Thanks in advance
Hey Jacobz87,
I might have a few recommendations for you, depending on how much you want to spend and what your requirements are (such as low power consumption, on 24/7 etc…). In my personal opinion a small NAS devices does not compare much at all to running Plex on a capable computer.
I also did searches for capable NAS devices and found myself running into the price range of $400 to $900 dollars. The thing is how much do you use Plex and how demanding are you on your Plex. Meaning do you stream a log of transcoded videos, 1080p etc… The said reality is that most cheap NAS devices have very little processing power and memory.
I currently have a Lenovo Think server with a four bay drive setup running FreeNAS with
What for this to go on sale for $299 its a seal for the power and the resources to be a very successful ESXi server or a rocken Plex box with removable NAS storage capabilities. Or I suggest upgrading to a device such as 4-bay WD
