I am having frequent problems with the Plex server app 1.15.4.994 crashing on my WD My Cloud EX2 when access it from anything other than a local hard wired machine. If accessing wirelessly or remotely it tends to crash fairly often. I have tried multiple devices with different player versions and it doesn’t seem to make a difference. Stopping and restarting the app on the NAS fixes the issue but it is annoying to do frequently and difficult to do remotely.
I was wondering if there was a better Plex server version (maybe an older version?) that plays nicer with the WD My Cloud EX2. I have noticed that the CPU usage tends to run pretty high on the WD My Cloud EX2 while streaming.
I have a WD MyCloud which does not have the ability to run Plex directly on it. I only use it to store all my media. I run the server on a laptop which points to the media on the NAS and it runs great. Do you have a device that you can install the server on vs the NAS Itself?
Yes, I have considered that but I would want to use a standalone device so that I don’t expose the personal data on my regular PC to a possible data breach. I do not have a spare machine to use for this purpose at present. I also did not really want to buy one right now. I was really hoping to get my MyCloud working, it works great if I use wired devices on my home network.
I was actually considering that as well.
It makes me wonder if anyone is actually using the WD MyCloud Ex2 as a Plex server or if it was just included as a token feature that doesn’t actually fully work. Since nobody else seems to use it for that functionality.

I just bought a NVIDIA Shield Pro and want to access the content on my WD MyCloud Ex2 from the Plex server on the Shield. I have not been able to get it to work. I can’t find any helpful instructions on how to set this up. Any assistance would be much appreciated.
