Hey everyone-
I’m new here. I’ve had a WD My Cloud for a few years now but I’m just now looking into getting Plex setup on it. I got a new LG Smart TV and I’d like to give it a shot. I’m not certain that my WD is compatible though. I’m attaching a screenshot of the web interface if that’s helpful. I don’t see the “apps” tab here that I saw on the step by step instructions. If there’s any more info I can give or if someone would be willing to walk me through this, I’d so greatly appreciate it. Up until now, I’ve just been using my Apple TV and Home Sharing from my MacBook. I’d rather not have to have my MacBook open all the time to stream my media to my TV.
Do you have any other devices in your home that the PLEX Media Server can run on as the MyCloud device you have is an older one like mine that doesn’t support running it directly on the NAS? I’m actually glad it doesn’t on mine as it doesn’t have much power to transcode or anything if needed. I have an Nvidia Shield I run it on as well as an old HP Laptop with windows 10. Here’s a link with some screenshots from a different post I’ve commented on before other post
Your going to need more $$$, there’s a big difference between cloud ‘storage’ and a ‘server’.
At a minimum the ‘My Cloud Expert Series EX2 Ultra’ will ‘serve’ with limitations (no hardware video transcoding over a network to your TV). Their ‘My Cloud Pro’ Series NAS’s do have that capability. https://www.wd.com/products/network-attached-storage.html I settled on a PR-2100 after buying and returning a EX2 Ultra unit.
(Note: WD’s MyCloud Home Series comes with a neutered non-upgradable version of PLEX for neophytes and this ‘Home Series’ is WD newest creation, showing where their head is.)
