Best way to add music instructional DVDs to Plex?

I’ve read through the naming convention pages and still can’t decide the best way to do this although Inline is not an ideal option for me, so that leaves Global.

What I have are Lick Library video DVDs which are guitar teaching courses and they’re mp4 and mpg. Others are Homespun violin courses but otherwise the same type of content. Most can be stored under an Artist name, like my music, but some are not specific to an artist. (But I don’t want any of them Inline with my music albums.) For example, one is on Lap Guitar. Anyway, my first instinct is to store them just as I would music except using Movies for the type and that didn’t work very well when there are more than one DVD to an artist, but I haven’t played around with filling in the tags yet, either.

But before I start doing that, I’m wondering if anyone else has this type of video content and how they’ve set theirs up. It seems I can add ID3 tags to mp4 but not sure about mpg. It doesn’t really matter to me whether Plex can identify the content or not.

Am I better off to use Other Videos rather than Movies for their type? Any advice appreciated.

Make them a series, if you have usually more than one file/part per topic.

Please use the search feature of this forum with the search terms “course”, “workout”, or “instructional” to find a multitude of in-depth threads about the matter.
