Hello Plex forum people I’ve been running plex for about a year now. I recently took the dive and went a little crazy any turned my old computer into a dedicated media server
Basic Specs are
i7 920
6gb Ram
Raid 1 for the OS with about 300 GB’s of Space
Raid 5, 4 Disks totaling just under 8.2 Terabytes
My internet connection to the Server is around 45 mbps down and 10 Up
Based on my research with my CPU i should in theory be able to have 4 HD streams up and running without issue ( i know bandwidth in my case is the limiting factor)
However i am getting constant stuttering and messages saying things like “the server is not fast enough to stream video” for one HD video being played remotely and know it’s not the remote sites internet either.
I Believe my issue is since i have ample space that i mostly store Large video files of bluray Versions ( not the crazy 40 - 100 gb files mind you) but on average 5 - 20 gb per file is a reasonable ballpark. I assume Plex has trouble with files as big as these and it’s unable to keep up when i stream at “Original Quality” I’m considering just optimizing my entire library along with unifying all of my videos to one format ( atm it’s a mess of MKV, MP4, and Avi files) But wanted to know if i should try something else before going this route.
Ideally, if it did use the optimization feature I’d like to delete the original versions as i see no need to keep versions that run poorly sitting on the server taking up space. currently im only using about 4 TB’s but i’d still like to preserve as much space as possible.
A 10Mbps upload connection may not handle a HD stream if the media has a high bitrate.
When the remote user is attempting playback is there any other outbound traffic on your WAN port?
If you can post the XML for the one that is giving you trouble it would help in determining what’s going on.

It’s running from my house and im the only one accessing / using my network. The only other outbound activity i can think of is crashplan ( my backup) running. But it doesn’t really have any new files to upload when I’m not home so i don’t think it’s the cause.
Here’s the XML, Quick bit of info i actually just got done optimizing this file as a test to see if it would run better not sure if the XML data is going to show you the info for the optimized version of the original
