How about a player that doesn’t crash a dozen times a day playing podcasts?
Hi dev team, the above shows my issue with the options button on Android auto. Sometimes it shows up, sometimes it doesn’t.
Hi all,
Not sure if this has already been mentioned (this is a huge thread), but I couldn’t see it in the issues at the top. I’m having issues with playback pausing/freezing. This seems to be related to when the screen sleeps and locks, especially (though not exclusively) when on battery rather than plugged in and charging.
The symptoms are that sometimes it seems to stop buffering, and just stops when it runs out of track to play, and other times it just hangs, or freezes, and when I re-open the Plex app I can see a spinning wheel. Leaving the screen on plex for ~10 seconds brings music back to life, but it doesn’t seem to like background streaming. This happens almost every time I try to play music when not on charger after the initial buffering while the screen is on, and intermittently (significantly less frequently) when on charger.
Has anybody run into this? Is this more likely related to my device or the plex app? Is there a fix I can enact/one in the pipeline?
I’m using a Samsung Galaxy Edge S7 with Android 8.0.0, Samsung Experience version 9.0 and Plex for Android version 7.9.0.8439
I have the same problem (Plex 7.9.0.8439 and Meizu MX6).
Screen is deactivated => Playback stops from time to time => I activate the screen briefly and playback continues
I don’t know if this is a problem of Plex or has to do with the energy saving mode of Android.
This is what the problem is … at least making an exception in the power saving profile on my phone helped to avoid stuttering and disabling playback when screen is locked.
Cheers, I’ll give this a go and see if it works.
I found this happening today when I was working a graveyard shift at work. I found if I left the app opened and then locked the phone, it would stop buffering a playlist. But I did find if I put the player in the background (hit the home screen button) then locked the phone, it wasn’t happening. I have an LG G6 running 7.10.0.8636 beta version.
Finally. 7.9 seems to have fixed the Issue that I first had to select “Offline Browsing” with no Internet
I assume now it plays stuff from your synced content first as well?
7.9 or 7.10? And yes, one of intermediate versions of 7.10 did seem to prioritize offline (local) content which makes all the sense to me
@SamFromPlex what’s the ETA on fixing synced playlists having incorrect content?
Are users still be added to the Google Play beta if requested on a weekly basis? Unfortunately only 3 of the visualizations are actually working on my new (to me anyway =p) phone, and I wanted to try out the beta version before diving into this further. Cheers!
you can download beta manually and install as external APK as well - I did get added to beta in ~2 weeks since the request
Plex is going down hill guys! Better checkout Emby!!
Did, nothing that impressed me to be honest.
Stability and keeps getting better and better with each update in the other hand you have Plex that with each update they keep adding features that no one ask for and keeps breaking thinks also they don’t care about the users and features request!!
wow, someone might think you get paid for advertising …
Really hoping @SamFromPlex and the team will surprise us with a build today =)
Talk to me when Emby has android auto support. I already paid for a lifetime plex pass and I’m still holding out until Emby has this feature.
But you are right, each release fixes one thing that wasn’t broken 2 version before, and two more things break.
I don’t blame the devs, I work closely with software devs IRL and I know they are doing what mgmt tells them to do…
Which is to incorporate features that nobody asked for, and that takes away valuable time for maintaining what we do ask for.
Tell you what folks, “like” this post if you don’t give two craps about:
-Tidal (Plex is back end server software, bro. If I wanted to pay an inferior streaming service, I wouldn’t be using Plex)
-Plex News (I’ll spare the political rant, but I’d bet a dollar that more people use the soon to be depreciated Plugins than Plex News)
-Curated web content (Again, back end server software)
-Dashboard stats (Great, but PlexPy does it much better. focus on outstanding bugs before adding new stuff)
-Plex VR (Just let this be a fan project…)
Podcasts is a feature that makes sense, however it completely broke voice search on Android and the issue has still yet to be addressed. I’d rather be able to disable podcasts completely and use a seperate app in this case.
Cheers for what to expect timeline-wise!
This is already a long thread, please try and stay on topic (there are already other places on the official Reddit/these forums/etc where people are asking for and getting recommendations on alternatives).
Give this person a gallon of beer for they speak the truth !
