[BETA] New Plex TV Series Scanner

That’s a bit difficult to say but we’re trying to keep it to a minimum, we pick up changes daily but cache times are still being tweaked. In general it should probably take around 48 hours on the high end but it’s very variable so it’s impossible to give a value here.

This fortunately doesn’t affect too many shows unless there is no information available before the episode airs.

IMDb ids work both ways for searching, either tt1234567 or imdb-tt1234567.

Small bug when switching the library agent.

Going to Manage Library > Edit > Advanced and selecting the Scanner and Plex TV Series will automatically change the Agent dropdown as Plex TV Series (BETA), but the settings below are not reloaded. To load the correct settings for the Plex TV Series (BETA) agent, you have to manually toggle the Agent dropdown.

Original settings:

Selecting Plex TV Series scanner:

Edit: Wording for the help text for the Episode sorting shouldn’t say “this show” for the global library settings.

Me too, I did the same thing. :upside_down_face:

@drzoidberg33 reported that it’s a known web client UI issue.

The guide above recommends changing the Agent setting.

Thanks, you’re the third person including one employee to mention this to me in the past 20 minutes

I’ve added some text to the instructions to clarify this.

I am having an issue where Pennyworth and Space Force are both being grouped together under The Murders, a show which I don’t have at all.
I did not have this issue previously when I made a separate library for testing the preview version, only when migrating my existing library to the new agent.
I have tried refreshing metadata for that show and attached logs below.
It is offering me a split apart option, which I haven’t tried yet.

Plex Media Server Logs_2021-03-02_15-47-51.zip (1.7 MB)

This is an exiting feature for tv shows. I hope Plex will add preroll support for tv shows too. I haven’t update my tv shows to new agent yet. I will wait for some time to fix the bugs

Have the same issue with that one also.

I still need 3rd party agent for a single show (Monogatari, using nfo files, probably you’ve heard difficulties around it), but this agent seems to use all or nothing approach. Is this decision final? Could you please reconsider to allow us to use different agent for content inside library using this one?

you can set to prefer local metadata in the library settings.
then just supply local metadata for the show you want to “override”
(haven’t tested this)

that option will make a lot of other shows messy from their embedded metadata tag. and I’m pretty sure plex never support nfo files anyway.

Interesting you’d pick Voyager for the matching pic. I recently added it to my server and have been fighting with it for days. Seemed to match correctly, but never loaded any metadata. I came here looking for help and stumbled upon this post. Figured it was worth a shot so I switched the agent and boom! All the images and other metadata appeared!

Thanks for this great update, beta or not!

I also had the same problem. I had to split everything back out and then force the correct match. Definitely still has some beta moments. When I originally changed the agent over, the disk utilization of my server spiked to 100% as it refreshed the metadata. I had to clear out my thumbnails and clean the bundles to get the size back down again. Once I am done cleaning up my library again, I am confident the new agent will be great going forward!

Thanks for this. I’ve been looking forward to the new agent for tv shows. For the most part things are matching fast and correctly, however, I have noticed that the thetvdb dvd agent is a little hit or miss so far.

For instance I just refreshed the metadata for my son’s PJ masks episodes and it only seems to be pulling content for seasons 2 and 3, and listing “Episode #” for episodes in season 1 and 4.

I have also Problems with my Recorded TV Shows.
The Plex DVR saves shows correctly with titels but after a fresh scan of metadata it shows no titels:

Example: /Dokus/Expedition Unknown - Mythen auf der Spur (2015)/Season 02/Expedition Unknown - Mythen auf der Spur (2015) - S02E14 - Das Herz des Sultans.ts

Plex shows me only: [Episode 14]

I tested this Problem with all scanners!

Thanks, we’re aware of this issue and it’s being looked at. Thanks for the report!

Thanks, this is one of the known issues.

Thanks, I’ll look at this today. It shouldn’t be changing metadata for DVR’d items.

Quick question, is this the library that the DVR is recording to or are you creating a new library and pointing it at the files that were recorded?

@drzoidberg33 is there an active list of known shows that have the limitation of DVD ordering from TVDB ? Myself I know of Lost & Terra Nova but having a consolidated list we can refer to would be really good.

If the list was also updated as these are fixed in the back-end then it would be good information for us to have rather than us just guessing if its fixed from week to week.
